316...that has always been an important number for me because of John 3:16, and now I'm taking it as one more sign that Karyssa was meant to be a brownie...because that's how many boxes of Girl Scout cookies she sold!
316! That really amazes me. She set her original goal at 150, and I told her not to be disappointed if she didn't get there. But she made a video for Facebook, she went around the neighborhood, around the church, around Jason's work, and around the place where Kyran gets his PT, and she sold 316 boxes!
She also worked a booth, but I have no clue how many they sold there.
I was so impressed by her professionalism and dedication to reaching her goal and then to keep going after that. She learned her product and knew all of the answers to the questions that people asked her, which was especially impressive since she missed the meeting where they explained everything to the girls.
She even took rejection with gratitude and grace.
She has loved the mix of outdoor activities, crafts, and service, and is making lots of new friends too.
Two of the girls in her troop are in her same class at school. One is the daughter of a woman I've known since high school (who let us know about the troop), and one is our neighbor who we didn't know until this year! That has been great for carpools!
The other girls go to neighboring schools, and most of them will go to the same middle school, which will be very helpful for them when they're thrown into a big school where they don't know as many people.
Outside of Girl Scouts as well, Karyssa continues to amaze me with her desire to help, her growing sense of responsibility from doing homework to household chores to helping with Gemma, and her grace under pressure.
Not only is she not phased by what others think, she knows to stand up for others and helps others learn to stand up for themselves.
She still has a passion for villians, and believes that all people can be good if they try. (This does make me worry a little about her dating years.)
She is completely boy-crazy like her mother was, but unlike me, she looks past pretty faces and sees boys' hearts. She is affected by flattery, though, which gives us another reason to worry. She has already had boys fighting over her, which makes Jason worry about his ability to stay out of jail!
She can burp. I don't just mean burp, I mean she can burp loud, long and on command. She can even burp the alphabet. It's both disgusting and impressive.
She can paint her own nails, take her own shower, make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (among other simple foods) and loves her independence. She is so proud of herself, and makes us so proud too.
She studies hard and makes all As. She is reading on a fourth grade level. Math comes a little harder for her (than it does for Kyran...I don't really have any other comparison), but when she really pays attention and double-checks her work, she always gets it right.
She loves to read when the topic interests her. Her favorite books right now are Mary Poppins, the Bailey School Kids books, and the Narnia series.
She is very picky about her clothes, and mornings are the main time I have to discipline her, because she pitches fits if she doesn't like the way things feel on her.
As picky as she is about clothes, she's that unpicky (is that a word?) about her food. She prides herself in eating everything, although there are a few things she doesn't like. She loves shrimp, crab legs, sushi, and lots of other expensive foods. She's also perfectly happy with chicken nuggets and cold pancakes.
She loves princesses and superheroes. She's not a big video game fan, but has played with Kyran enough to keep her interested, even sometimes when he's not home.
(Resumed 5/1) She loves any kind of art or sewing projects, and is getting into theatre as well. She is "directing" a version of Beauty and the Beast with some of her classmates, and wants to audition for the play at the local theatre this month!
She enjoys being outside, especially since she got a gymnastics mat for Christmas and she can practice her gymnastics. Her class is a tumbling class that meets once a week, and she really enjoys it! They had a showcase last Thursday and she did such a great job!
She wants me to cuddle with her every night. While I don't most nights (because I know it's just a stall tactic), the nights I do are so sweet. Her bottom bunk gets pretty warm at night, because the ceiling fan doesn't reach it. She spent several nights on the floor before we bought her a little fan for her bed.
Hannah is her best friend and probably favorite non-related person in the whole world. Although, Carrie Lyn is a close second.
Her love language is Acts of Service, and the more she loves you, the more she wants to do to help you.
She is fierce and loyal. She is smart and strong. She is inappropriate and disgusting. She is my beautiful, wonderful Karyssa and I love her so, so much!
