What a busy week! It's wonderful to have the babies home, but they definitely take up a lot of time. When Jason is at work, it takes Talyse around two hours to feed both of them, between nursing, supplementing with a bottle and pumping for the next feeding. So, after an hour of rest, eating or organizing the house, she starts all over again!
At night and on weekends, feedings take about a hour to an hour and a half, depending on how well the babies take their bottles.
God has definitely blessed us with two wonderful babies. So far, they are sleeping very well, and we have been waking them up for their feedings. They'll even go four hours at night in between feedings.
They've had two doctor's appointments this week and are gaining weight well. Kyran is up to 7 lb, 9 oz and Karyssa is 6 lb, 7 oz. The doctor is very pleased with their progress and development! This week, they have an appointment with the eye doctor and Kyran has his follow-up hearing screen.
Doctor's appointments are an event now. It takes us a half hour to pack up all of the monitors and oxygen and get the babies in the car. It is definitely a two-person job! We are also not allowed to sit in the waiting room because the babies can't be exposed to other children, so they take us right back to an exam room where we wait for the doctor.
It's so amazing to fall asleep at night to the sounds of their coos, grunts and breathing. It's amazing to be able to wake up at night and hold them for their feedings. It's amazing to wake up in the morning and look at our babies before we do anything else. It's amazing to be able to cuddle with them in our own bed. It's amazing to watch them grow and develop. One thing that this experience has taught us is to be thankful for every second with them and never miss an opportunity to show them how much they are loved.
Several of you have asked about coming to see the babies, but doctor's orders are for no visitors until at least April. Their immune systems are not as fully developed as if they had been born at full term, and a bug that would give a full-term baby the sniffles could put them back in the hospital.
It's hard to believe that two months ago today, we had just met our angels for the first time. The time has flown, and we know that the next days, months and years will do the same, so we're trying to take advantage of every second.
