Because of RSV restrictions on their first birthday, we did not have a party. So, we held a half-birthday/premier party for them last summer, and it went so well, we decided to do that for them again this year. Their birthday is just four days before Christmas, when it's very cold and everyone is either out of town or with family, so this is the perfect solution!
I am a planner. I love planning just about anything. Vacations, weddings, parties...you name it, I'll plan it! My problem comes in where sometimes my brain is bigger than my hands, or something like that. I love to come up with creative and fun ideas, but carrying them out is not always so easy. I get pictures in my head, and when I can't make them come to life, it's frustrating for me.
So, with the help of my mom (lifesaver, as always), we set out to create a Mickey Mouse Adventure Party. I drafted four group adventures. Group One had to find out who stole Minnie's cookies and get them back to the clubhouse; Group Two had to rescue Daisy from the tower; Group Three had to help Donald get a baby bird back to its nest; and Group Four had to help Goofy get his bouncy ball back from Saturn.
Each group had a "Toodles". (If you've watched the show, you know what that is. If not, go watch it!) Toodles had all of the tools they needed to solve their missions. In each group, one parent read the mission and some of the older kids helped lead the younger kids through the adventure.
Great plan, right?
Well, finding the Mouseketools and props turned out to be the hardest part. It took several trips to Hobby Lobby, Michael's and Party City, but we were actually able to get everything done and ready for the party day.
The second hardest part was that we had 35 children 13 and under in our house, along with their parents. Getting everyone sorted into their groups was a little hectic, but once they were sorted, the missions went beautifully, and everyone had a great time!
The third hardest part was keeping it all under budget. Boy, people know they can charge a lot for something if Mickey Mouse is on it!
The kids had their faces painted (by my talented cousin, Alison), solved their Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Adventure, busted open a Mickey Mouse pinata, ate cake and ice cream, and then Kyran and Karyssa opened their presents!
Now, the hardest part is figuring out where to put all of their new toys and books!
