Four Weeks Old

Wow, it's been a busy weekend for the Burkett Bundle, especially our little man! At 12:05 a.m. on Sunday, Kyran made his big trip from his isolette to his crib! He has done a great job maintaining his body temperature and just looks so comfortable clothed and swaddled! It's much easier to pick him up and cuddle with him now, which is a wonderful blessing!

Yesterday, he was also weaned down a little on his cannula pressure, and took his first bottle!! He, with the help of Nurse Amy, took all 44 ccs of his food with very little problems. His sucking and swallowing reflexes seem to be great, and he really appears to like the taste of his milk as well! He took another bottle at 9 a.m. and did even better with that one. Right now the plan is to do one bottle feed a day and at some point soon, increase it to two each day.

He weighs 4 lb, 7.6 oz last night and is 16 3/4 in long. Karyssa now weighs 4 lb, 2 oz and is 16 1/2 inches. Her temperature was good all night, so they may start weaning her into a crib soon too!

God has been so good to us and our babies and we pray for their continued progress!

Here are the latest pictures!

Oh my goodness! Reading your blog brings back SOOO many memories. We were at Baptist in the very same new NICU from August - December. We were discharged December 9, 2008 - just 6 days after my original due date. From the pictures, it looks as if your little man is even in the same room we were in. Any chance Room 8?

We will be praying for you each step of the way. Believe me, you are in the best hands! All the doctors, nurses, RT's and other staff at Baptist are the absolute best!!!

Hang in there! If you need anything, please feel free to email me.
