Karyssa and Kyran had their two-month well check-up today and continued to get good news! Kyran now weighs 9 lb, 7.7 oz and Karyssa weighs 7 lb, 13.5 oz. She is not gaining quite as fast as him, but Dr. Bartlett thinks that she will catch up soon. They are still below the third percentile for full-term newborns at 3 months old, but the fact that they are even close is great!
She did one final pulse oximeter reading on Kyran and he was perfect, so we can call the home monitoring company this weekend and have them come pick up his oxygen tank and their pulse oximeters!
Dr. Bartlett went over the two-month milestones to look out for, and they have met all of them! They are smiling (occasionally), lifting their heads, tracking with their eyes at a 45 degree angle and making great eye contact! She went over the four-month milestones and they are already meeting two of them, rolling onto their sides and clasping their hands together over their chests and mouths! We are now looking for them to start laughing and smiling a lot in the next two months, tracking at a 180 degree angle, and maybe even rolling themselves completely over.
They got several vaccinations today, one orally and three shots. The nurse was amazing. She gave each of them all three shots in less than ten seconds! Very impressive, especially for our squirmy worms.
We go back to Dr. Bartlett in one month to get a head circumference measurement to make sure things look good, then again for their four-month well check-up and if everything goes well, they will be on a regular schedule from that point on. She said they sound great and have good muscle tone, and even she was impressed with the great reports from the other doctors.
Kyran has developed cradle cap, so we'll be using a dandruff shampoo on him three times a week to get rid of that. That was the only piece of relatively bad news we got today, so we are thrilled!
We realized today that tomorrow will be two weeks since Karyssa's last alarm sounded with a low respiratory rate that lasted a couple of seconds, and even longer for Kyran. He's had one low heart rate since he got back from the hospital, but it only lasted for a few seconds and he has been great since then!
Talyse's work week went pretty smoothly, but she is looking forward to spending the next two weeks loving on the babies!
Kyran and Karyssa will be three months old tomorrow! It is amazing how time flies when you just want it to stand still! We wish they could be babies forever, but at the same time are so excited about what the rest of their lives hold! We know God will continue to pour his blessings out on our little angels!
