Happy Friday the 13th! Most of you don't know, but Friday the 13th is a lucky day for us. We had our first date on Friday, August 13, 2004, (yes, Talyse went out with a guy named Jason for the first time on Friday the 13th) and the Friday the 13ths since have been celebrated in various ways. We have great news this Friday the 13th and are looking forward to what the rest of the day holds.

We have had three great appointments in the last two days!

The pulmonologist, Dr. Brown, confirmed that Kyran definitely no longer needs to be on oxygen and does not need to be monitored by the pulse oximeter anymore, so that's one more piece of equipment down and one less wire coming from our baby boy!

He also said he thinks that they only need to be on the apnea monitor when they eat and sleep, but since that's pretty much all they do, we're definitely keeping them on it until Dr. Yajnik gives us the ok to take them off. It helps us to sleep at night knowing that the alarm will go off if anything is wrong.

Dr. Brown also said that the Synagis shot they got for RSV on Wednesday will most likely be the last one they need. He said their lungs sound great and that after a couple more months of "house arrest" we will be able to begin bringing them places with us and letting more of you meet them! He also believes that there will be no need for house arrest or Synagis shots next fall and winter because of how well they are doing. We will only need to see him again if our pediatrician, Dr. Bartlett, says we need to because of upper-airway problems.

They have now graduated from the eye doctor who has examined them for ROP (Retinopathy of Prematurity) and will see the baby eye doctor in three months. Some preemies have a problem with near-sightedness, so this doctor will check them for that.

Yesterday, Karyssa had an ultrasound on her hip. Dr. Bartlett heard a hip click when examining her, which can sometimes be a sign of hip dysplasia - the medical name used to describe a problem with formation of the hip joint in children. The ultrasound showed that there was no problem with her hip, so we are done with that too!

The babies are both getting a little fussier as they want to be awake more during the day and are starting to need more to eat. Finding the balance is difficult, because overfeeding them makes them not want to eat the next time and not feeding them enough causes them to sound like they are being subjected to midieval torture.

They met their Aunt Harmony for the first time on Wednesday, and just like everyone else, she is crazy about them! They still can't meet their cousins for a couple of months, but we are already looking forward to that!

We were hoping to be able to take them for their first walk around the neighborhood this weekend, but it looks like the weather doesn't want to cooperate. Weekends are always nice anyway because Jason gets to spend more time with the babies and Talyse gets more help with the feedings.

Tomorrow marks one month since we brought them home. Although we miss the NICU staff, it's almost as if that experience never happened and we just took home our newborn babies a month ago. Our family has settled nicely into a routine and we couldn't be happier! We are amazed at how much confidence God has in us, and how much he has blessed our family!

Here are some of the lyrics to one of Talyse's new favorite songs:

Twenty Tiny Fingers

We've got cribs and bottles and bibs
All round our three room flat
No time to see what's on TV
No room to hang your hat
We're on the run, we're never done
It's like a steeplechase
They came in and they took over
Like they owned the place

Oooooh! Twenty tiny fingers, twenty tiny toes
Two angel faces, each with a turned up nose
One looks like mummy, with a cute little curl on top
And the other one's got a big bald spot
Exactly like his pop, pop, pop,Pop-a-dop, pop, pop,
Pop-pop.

It's twice the laundry, twice the milk
It's twice the baby clothes
It's double this and double that
Oh how the money goes
But now, you see, they both agree
When all is said and done
We've got twice the blessings
And we've got twice the fun

Oooooh! Twenty tiny fingers, twenty tiny toes
Two angel faces, each with a turned up nose
One looks like mummy, with a cute little curl on top
And the other one's got a big bald spot
Exactly like his Pop.
