Today was a great day!
We had our appointment today at the sleep lab to look at the downloads from the babies' apnea monitors. Kyran had several apnic episodes, many of them stemming from the reflux, so it will be interesting to see if those have quieted down now that he's on Zantac. Karyssa had fewer episodes, most of them long periods between breaths, but her heart rate stayed up, so that's a good sign. Dr. Yajnik thinks that she will be done with her monitor before Kyran is, but that neither of them will be on for longer than a few more months. Jason is ready to take them off already, but Talyse wouldn't mind sending them to college with them.
She did say that we should start weaning ourselves from them by turning them off during waketime to make sure that we are ok once they finally do come off of them.
Leaving the lab today, we ran into two NICU friends. One was the mother of triplets that were in the NICU during our stay there and she is also the wife of someone Talyse went to school with from elementary school through high school. All three boys are doing great and we're talking about putting together a basketball team with our five children!
We also ran into a family that has been a huge inspiration to us during this time. We had never actually met them, but feel like we knew them already. Their daughter is also a preemie and they spent a lot of time in the NICU, some of which when Talyse was right down the hall on bed rest. Then we took the babies to the NICU where they had a great reunion with the staff there! Everyone loves Kyran's chubby little cheeks and comments on how much Kyran looks like a baby boy and Karyssa looks like a baby girl!
Talyse is back at work this week, and it has been very tough on her, but it helps so much that Grandmommy can be there to take care of them. We are so blessed to have someone who loves them almost as much as we do to spend time with them when we can't be there. We are also fortunate that Talyse's company has been so flexible during the last several months. God is definitely looking out for us!
Their two-month appointment is Friday, so they'll be getting their first vaccinations and we'll have updated weights then.
