Four-Month Well Check-up

So, we have even more confusion about our babies' ages! Tuesday, they will be five months old. Yesterday, they had their four-month well check-up. Yesterday was also three months from when they came home, which would have been when they were full-term for twins. May 3 was two months from their original due date, which would be their gestational age now. So, are they 5 months, 4 months, 3 months or 2 months?

The good news is that the doctor said their fine motor skills should catch up by one year and by two years everything should have caught up to their actual age. For now, we'll just have to be a little confused.

We got more great news yesterday. Kyran now weighs 11 lb, 6 oz and Karyssa is 9 lb, 15.2 oz...almost 10 lbs!!! Kyran is now 23 1/4 inches (almost 2 feet!) and Karyssa is 22 1/2 inches. The doctor is very happy with their growth! They are also doing most of the things that four-month-old babies do. Dr. Bartlett said that they should have two extra months to accomplish all of the milestones, because of how early they were.

Kyran is actually already doing things that aren't expected until six months old. He is, and has been, "talking" or cooing for almost a month now, and he just started blowing raspberries! He skipped right over laughing, so that's one thing that the doc would like to see by their six month check-up.

Karyssa is laughing a little, but not talking yet, so that's one of the things we're looking for from her by the next visit.

This will be the longest they have ever gone without seeing a doctor. Kyran has another audiologist appointment on May 29, and they both see the baby eye doctor on June 1, but we consider those to be specialist appointments. They won't see Dr. Bartlett again until July 15! It will be so weird not to know how much they weigh for two months!!

They have started to notice each other now, mainly when one of them is crying. They're not interacting yet, but that will be such a neat thing when they start playing together and entertaining each other! They have also started looking at the pages when we read to them. Their smiles are getting bigger, brighter and are happening much more often.

We also asked if it was normal to have to clip the babies' nails every third day, and she said that is a sign of good nutrition, so that's another great sign!

We're taking the babies on their first road trip this weekend! We'll be going to Raleigh for our friends Jeremiah and Miriam's wedding. This will be the first time we've left the babies with anyone but Talyse's mom. Aunt Tammy, Carey and Dr. Cristina are very excited about watching them! How lucky we are that they live in the same city as the wedding!

For those of you who don't know, Raleigh is about four hours from here, so it will definitely be an experience. It will also be the first night that we've spent away from home since the babies came home. Packing for this trip is going to be lots of fun!
